Dog Day Care – Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Dog Daycare

What is dog daycare and how does it work?

Dog daycare is a daytime care service where dogs are dropped off in the morning and collected later the same day. At Smith’s Canine Club, dogs enjoy a structured day that includes supervised social interaction, enrichment activities, rest periods, and routine. We focus on calm, balanced care and do not offer overnight stays.

What hours does Smith’s Canine Club operate?

Our dog daycare operates Monday to Friday, 7am–7pm. Drop-off and collection times are arranged in advance to help maintain a calm, organised environment throughout the day.

Do you offer overnight boarding?

No. Smith’s Canine Club provides daytime dog daycare only. All dogs must be collected by 7pm, and we do not offer overnight or residential boarding.

What makes Smith’s Canine Club different from other dog daycares?

We focus on structure, routine, and wellbeing rather than constant high-energy play. Our approach includes supervised socialisation, mental enrichment, calm rest periods, and individual care. This creates a more balanced experience, particularly for dogs who benefit from routine and quieter environments.

Booking & Getting Started

How do I book a place for my dog?

All dogs must complete an introductory assessment before attending daycare. Bookings are currently made in person or over the phone. Joining our mailing list is the best way to receive early access to bookings and opening offers.

What is an introductory assessment?

An assessment allows us to meet your dog, understand their personality, and ensure daycare is suitable for them. We look at confidence levels, behaviour, comfort around other dogs, and overall wellbeing to make sure the environment is right for them.

What is a taster session?

Taster sessions are short daycare visits designed to help dogs settle in gradually. Each session lasts up to 5 hours, and dogs can attend up to five taster sessions if needed. Tasters allow your dog to become familiar with the environment and routine at their own pace.

How many taster sessions will my dog need?

Every dog is different. Some settle in after one session, while others benefit from a few shorter visits. We will always guide you honestly based on your dog’s comfort and confidence.

What should I bring on my dog’s first day?

Please bring:

  • Your dog’s usual food (if needed during the day)

  • A collar or harness

  • A lead

  • Any required medication

We recommend not bringing toys or bedding unless requested.

Your Dog’s Day With Us

What happens during a typical day?

A typical day includes calm arrivals, supervised social time, enrichment activities, regular toilet breaks, fresh water, and planned rest periods. Each dog’s day is adapted to their age, energy level, and individual needs.

Will my dog be with other dogs?

Dogs may socialise with other suitable dogs in supervised groups. We carefully manage group dynamics and do not leave dogs from different households unsupervised together. Compatibility and safety are always our priority.

How many dogs are at the facility at one time?

We limit numbers to ensure quality care, supervision, and a calm environment. Group sizes are managed in line with licensing requirements and each dog’s needs.

Do you provide food or treats?

Owners are required to provide their dog’s food. Treats may be used for enrichment or training where appropriate, and any dietary requirements or sensitivities must be disclosed.

Health, Safety & Welfare

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

Yes. All dogs must be fully vaccinated, including kennel cough, or have valid titre test certification. Dogs must also be up to date with flea and worm treatment using veterinary-approved products.

What if my dog becomes unwell during the day?

If your dog shows signs of illness, they will be safely isolated and monitored. We will contact you or your emergency contact immediately and seek veterinary advice if needed. Any veterinary costs incurred are the responsibility of the owner.

Do you administer medication?

Yes, provided all medication is clearly labelled and full instructions are supplied in writing. Please discuss your dog’s medication needs with us during the assessment.

What happens in an emergency?

In an emergency, we will make every effort to contact you or your emergency contact. If urgent veterinary treatment is required, we are authorised to seek treatment immediately. Your dog’s safety and wellbeing always come first.

Pricing & Policies

Do you offer discounts for multiple dogs?

Yes. We offer a discount for a second dog from the same household attending on the same days. Full details are available on our pricing page.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made in writing. Deposits are refundable if cancelled more than 30 days in advance. Cancellations within 30 days or failure to attend are non-refundable. Full details are outlined in our Terms & Conditions.

What happens if I’m late collecting my dog?

Collection times are agreed in advance. Late collections may incur additional charges, and persistent lateness may result in review of service suitability.

Trust & Reassurance

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Smith’s Canine Club is fully licensed by the local authority and insured in accordance with current regulations. Our facility operates in line with animal welfare and licensing standards.

How do you handle behaviour issues?

If a dog displays behaviour that impacts their wellbeing, staff safety, or other dogs, we will contact the owner immediately. In some cases, the dog may need to be collected early or reassessed for suitability.

How do I prepare my dog for daycare?

Ensure your dog is well rested, up to date with vaccinations, and comfortable spending time away from home. Taster sessions are the best way to help dogs settle in gradually and confidently.
